It’s a lovely sunny day, just a day to play Outdoor Snakes and Ladders. The children had a super time playing lots of games with their friends. As you can see by the picture everyone really enjoyed themselves as they all had massive smiles on their faces during the games.
Our compliment tree
Finley, Iliza, mum and dad have made a compliment tree as their Friday Thrive activity. What a super idea and thank you for sharing your tree with us.
Keep Smiling Message from the Children
The children of key workers who are attending school wanted to send a message to their friends to tell them to keep smiling and let them know how much they are missing everyone and that they are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.
06.05.20 – Letter from Head Teacher
Please read the letter below regarding individual letters to each child from their class teachers:
Thank you to Carers and Front Line Workers
I am sure many of you will have joined in with the Thursday weekly applaud for our front line workers.
Some of our children have gone even further. Finley and Iliza have made this beautiful rainbow using a mosaic technique to create this stunning piece of artwork.
On Thursday 30th April, our key worker children even created a small video which involved acting, costumes, props and a lot of laughter.
01.05.20 – Head Teacher Update
Keeping in Touch with our children and families
I am delighted to let you know that our amazing staff have made a YouTube video to let our children know that we are all thinking of them and missing them. It is definitely worth a watch!
Here it is:
The team have also written individual personalised letters to every child in their class. These will be emailed to their parents email address which is registered on our data system. Hopefully, this will be towards the end of next week. We will be sending all the letters out on the same day to avoid any disappointment.
We want you all to know that you are constantly in our thoughts and look forward to seeing you all soon.
28.04.20 – Interactive Art Lesson
On Tuesday 28th April 2020, our children took part in an interactive art lesson online which they thoroughly enjoyed. They were amazed at how well their drawings turned out by following the instructions given. This would be a great activity to try at home visit Art For Kids Hub.
The Great Outdoors: Activities to try
Hello everyone, my name is Caroline, and I have been leading Forest School sessions at Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School.
I hope you are keeping well, and finding things to keep you entertained in this strange time of ‘lock down’.
With the weather being so beautiful, and as I have a great love for the outdoors and all things ‘Forest School’ related, we’ve spent a lot of time outside as a family. As a mum to three energetic children, I am often on the look outlook for creative outdoor things to do with them. Here’s some of the things we have done recently that you might like to try at home too:
Make a mini kite:
1: Make a diamond shape from newspaper/tissue paper/plastic bag.
2: Sellotape/glue a cross shaped frame made from lightweight sticks (willow works well) to the diamond cut out.
3: Attach some string to the centre of the cross (to hold onto whilst flying it)
4: Add a tail to the bottom point of the kite, using ribbon or more newspaper. This helps the kite to balance in the wind and stops it from going round and round.
Now go outside and enjoy flying your kite. We found ourselves bursting into song, Mary Popping style: “Let’s go fly and kite…”
EXTRA: Make a bigger kite! Experiment with different lengths of tail / how is it best to attach the string / make the diamond shape out of different materials. Which flys best?
Balance stones:
Collect some stones on your daily walk and see how high a tower you can make.
How many stones can you build with before it topples over?
Have a competition with others in your home.
Make a den:
Using sticks, chairs, cardboard boxes, old sheets/blankets, string, rope etc. Try and be creative.
When I was a kid I loved to make dens (in fact I still do) and to imagine that I was living on a deserted island. Perhaps you could create a story, whilst sitting in your den, about where you imagine your den to be and the adventures you get up to. I always wanted to be part of the adventures in ‘Swallows and Amazons’.
RSBP Challenge:
In the forest school sessions at school we had been completing the RSPB challenges. This can also be done at home by signing up to the Family Wild Challenge.
It is a free resource and there are plenty of activities that you can get involved with which will help you connect with nature; bug house building, bird box making, bug hunting, bird cake recipe etc. Take a look and work towards your RSPB Wild Challenge Bronze award.
I hope you have as much fun doing these activities, as we have.
Take care,
Caroline
27.04.20 – Skittles Rainbow
What an amazing idea! On Monday Miss Wilkinson and Mrs McArdle got the children involved in creating a rainbow made from Skittles. The children carefully placed the sweets in a circle around the plate then added warm water. Everyone waited with baited breath and suddenly the colours started to appear. The children were not the only ones who were transfixed, Mrs Cross and Mr Mann (Cook) were fascinated with the experiment!
The result was a beautiful rainbow on the plate and spare sweets to share in the bag!
27.04.20 – Planting Seeds
On Monday the children learnt all about the life cycle of plants and planted their own collection of seeds. Some chose vegetables such as carrots and radishes whilst others went for sunflowers and flowering plants.
The children decorated their plant pots made out of recycled plastic bottles and then planted their seeds. They learnt how to look after their seeds and then took them home – good luck with your growing project!
