We have had a great term. The children have worked so hard and have had loads of fun learning all kinds of new things. As the term draws to a close and we begin to prepare for the Christmas season, let’s take a look at some of the term highlights from our teachers…to find out more be sure to click on the class link to see what each class has been doing in more detail.
Class 1 by Miss Henderson
We have had a fantastic Autumn term in Year 1 and would like to share some of our highlights with you. We really enjoyed learning about Superheroes and our real life heroes. As part of this topic we got to visit the Fire Station in Stanhope. We went in the fire engines and at the end of the visit we were allowed to squirt the hoses. Everyone got a little bit wet but it was great fun! ‘Spraying the hose was so much fun because we were pretending to put out the fire and it was almost squirting me’ – Poppy.
Our science topic this half term has been all about animals and their habitats. We had a walk to the river to see what animals and mini-beasts we could spot. We saw some wiggly worms, spiders and slugs down by the river. We also spotted some ducks and we found where the rats live. ‘Hunting for habitats was so fun because we found a big hole where we thought Mr Badger, from the Wind in the Willows, might live.’ – Travis
Class 1A by Miss Hunter-Purvis
Wow what an excellent first term we have had in Class 1A! Lawrence loved the new classroom especially the new trays we have under our tables. All of us love being challenged in our mental maths and look forward to beating our score to get stars each day. Harry thoroughly enjoyed the fire station and the whole class agrees that it was an excellent day out. We got to go in the fire truck, squirt the hose and Laycee even beeped the horn! We are all looking forward to our next term in Year 2!
Class 2 by Mrs. Howes
We have had a great Autumn term in Class 2 and we are all proud of what we have achieved so far. The children are working hard to take pride in everything that they do and their efforts are beginning to pay off. We have been exploring the Revolting Romans and have discovered how gruesome they actually are. We have written letters from Boudicca and have discovered how persuasive some of us can be to join in her army, to attack the Romans.
We have been working hard to make our Christmas crafts and we all excelled in the Christmas performance of Baubles.
What a wonderful term and we are looking forward to the challenges 2016 will bring us!!
Class 3 by Mrs. Cross
Looking back over this term I am amazed at just how much we have achieved and how many exciting opportunities the children in class 3 have had. My main highlight was to discover how fantastic each and every child is in my class, they are all eager learners and real credit to themselves and their families. More specifically, I was totally blown away with the Play In A Day which was the best to date. Similarly, I was incredibly proud of how the children behaved in the NSPCC Childline workshop, where they discussed complex issues such as neglect and abuse in a mature and sensible way, showing respect for each other. We also had a great time working with the Leather Artist, Mark Rowney, coaches from Blackburn Rovers and working with OASES on Climate Change.
The children have made excellent progress in all areas and I am looking forward to next term where we will be offering other opportunities to extend their learning and development.
