On Thursday 22nd September 2016 Eco Club went river dipping in the river Wear. The session was led by Mr Simon Wilson, Chair of Governors who also works for the AONB. Mr Wilson brought equipment including: nets, magnifiers, trays and identification sheets. The children thoroughly enjoyed splodging in the river and identifying a huge range of insect and fish life in the river.
The children recorded the type of species and the number of them they found and this information has been fed into the data banks of the Environment Agency, who closely monitor the health of the river.
The children learnt a lot about life cycles, the water cycle and how to work scientifically when collecting important data.
Many thanks to Mr Wilson and Mr Cranston for helping to deliver this session.
