At Stanhope Barrington we have a Buddy and a Mini-Buddy programme, whereby each year children in Year 5&6 apply to become Buddies. Younger children in Year 3&4 can apply to become Mini-buddies with a view to them training up to become Buddies when they move up the school.
The Buddies receive training from Mrs Stidwell, who co-ordinates the Buddy programme, before commencing their duties. If successful the Buddies and Mini-Buddies are given a badge and cap to wear so that they are identifiable around school. The role of the Buddies is to make sure that children are not left alone on the yard during playtime and lunchtime. They find people to play together, they intervene in low level disputes and listen to the ideas, suggestions and concerns of other children. The Buddies also operate a rota where they take turns to play with the younger children in Early Years. Being a Buddy is a very responsible role within our school and we are very proud of the work our children do in this role.
