The first candle of Advent has been lit which means there are only three more Sundays until Christmas! The season of Advent is a time of preparation for the celebration of the arrival of baby Jesus. There are four candles on the Advent wreath with one in the middle. The four candles represent the four weeks of Advent with one candle lit each Sunday before Christmas. The candle in the middle is lit on Christmas Eve. Each candle has a special significance.
The first candle, which is purple, symbolises HOPE. It represents the excitement we feel when looking forward to the arrival of baby Jesus. There is so much hope in the arrival of a new baby.
Hope is the belief that everything will work out and that all will be well. When I think about hope, I think about kindness. I imagine a bird that has broken it’s wing. I imagine him–with a little bit of help, time and kindness–watching him fly away again. For me, that is HOPE.
What brings you HOPE?
