Tour of Britain 2019

13th September 2019 By sarahingwersen

On the 9th of September the whole of the school lined the route through Stanhope to cheer on the cyclists in Stage four of the Tour of Britain cycle race. The pupils and staff were excited to watch all of the police motorcycles and then were amazed by the number and speed of the cyclists as they whizzed by.

Our pupils did us proud by their exceptional behaviour and their politeness out and about in our community.

Neesham Trail – Official Opening

1st July 2019 By sarahingwersen

On Friday, 28 June 2019 our new Neesham Trail in our Early Years’ Unit was officially opened by Mrs. Lorraine Neesham and representatives from the Weardale Action Partnership. The afternoon was well attended by staff, governors, parents, pupils and special guests. The weather was lovely and the Early Years’ garden looked stunning with colourful decorations and a beautiful ‘Wishing Tree’.

Special thanks goes to Joanne Ward, for making the delicious cakes and serving the tea and coffee, along with Elaine Hunt. Stanhope Barrington pupils Holly, Georgia and Kayleigh were fantastic helpers at the event, too, pouring juice and helping the younger pupils. The Early Years team (and the children) worked extra hard to make sure that the garden looked amazing for the event.

Thank you to Mrs. Neesham for her generous gift and to the Weardale Action Partnership for contributing to the improvements to our Early Years’ play area. The new equipment will be enjoyed by the children of our community for years to come because of their support.

Stanhope Barrington joins The Big Play

1st July 2019 By sarahingwersen

On Friday 21st June 2019 our school joined schools across County Durham in The Big Play. The purpose of the event was to get as many children as possible playing a musical instrument on the same day.

During our celebration assembly we were entertained by our children who are learning to play violin and brass instruments. This was a great mini-concert which gave our children the opportunity to perform in front of a large audience. All of our children were extremely confident and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Durham Cathedral Leavers’ Service

17th June 2019 By sarahingwersen

On Thursday 13th June 2019 our Y6 children attended the Leavers’ Service at Durham Cathedral. Unfortunately the torrential rain stopped us from having our picnic by the river but the children had a tour around the cathedral and enjoyed the different activities inside.

The children enjoyed the leavers songs and have asked if they can perform them at our school leavers’ service in St. Thomas’ Church.

The funniest moment was seeing Mr Myers being wrapped up in toilet paper in front of everyone!

Another fantastic memory for our children to take away with them when they leave us in July!

Hunwick Cricket Festival

17th June 2019 By sarahingwersen

On the 5th of June 2019 our school, Stanhope Barrington C of E Primary School, visited a cricket competition at Hunwick. Although we didn’t win, we all said it was great fun and it wasn’t the winning that counts it’s the taking part that does. In my opinion we all did well and would love to go again. Heidi said, “We could do better if we practised”. We all had a great time and played well as a team.

Mr Myers (Head Teacher) said he was really proud of us all and that we were a credit to the school.

NRICH: STEM Week Maths Workshops

17th June 2019 By sarahingwersen

On Monday 1oth June and Tuesday 11th June 2019, a small group of our KS1 and KS2 mathematicians attended NRICH Maths Workshops. At the workshops there were a wide range of problem solving puzzles and activities for them to complete. Some were very tricky and really challenged our children.

As always the children were a real credit to the school and enjoyed this fantastic opportunity.

Lots of love from everyone at Stanhope Barrington

17th June 2019 By sarahingwersen

This last week we said goodbye to two extra special teachers who are starting their maternity. Both little girls are due to be born in the next  few weeks and Miss H-P and Mrs Green have been overwhelmed with good wishes, gifts and cards from children, parents and staff.

Everyone at Stanhope Barrington CofE Primary School wishes them both the very best of luck and looks forward to meeting baby HP and baby Green.

Although we will miss both teachers a great deal, they will both be back next Easter to resume their teaching roles.
