It was lovely to see some of the children taking an interest to football which gave them the opportunity to show their competitive personalities.
September 2020- February 2021
Skills Training – When possible, the children have really enjoyed learning with our sports coach Josh, who comes in to teach PE on Tuesdays. His focus has continued to be on improving basic skills including, movement, throwing and catching and spatial awareness.
We have also completed a topic on Music and Movement. The children loved learning to move in-time to a range of songs and rhymes. They have also just completed their “Elf-Training” course, learning a range of useful techniques, just in time for Christmas.
Throwing and catching – The children have really enjoyed having our sports coach Josh who comes in to teach PE on Tuesdays. His focus this half term has been throwing and catching and spatial awareness.
Gymnastics – We have also completed a topic in Gymnastics. Following a topic on “Animals,” we have been practising gymnastic movements including jumping, rolling, hopping and skipping.
Animal antics – Today in P.E we experimented with balancing and carrying equipment on different parts of our body. This was really tricky but we did a great job. We moved along balance beams, jumping and landing correctly.
Creative Movement – In PE, the children have been taking part in a dance topic, using the Gunpowder plot as their stimulus. Every week they have had to dance and recreate a different part of the story. They have created some brilliant movements and enjoyed the theme, after covering it in our Literacy sessions.
Yoga – The children have also taken part in some Yoga as part of their mental and emotional wellbeing. We have used Zen den and cosmic kids yoga to support our mindfulness sessions.
Spatial Awareness – We are lucky to still have our sports coach Josh who comes in to teach PE on a Tuesday. His focus this half term has been balls skills and spatial awareness. We have taken part in lots of games that focus on our spatial awareness and hand eye coordination.
Gymnastics – We have also completed a topic in Gymnastics this half term. We have been following the theme of Landscapes and Cityscapes. Each week we have been practicing our basic gymnastics moves.
Yoga – Since returning to school, Class 3 have really enjoyed their yoga sessions on a Monday afternoon. Our first focus was ‘washing hands’ and the children then choose their own topic. Yoga gave the children opportunity to relax, use their gross-motor skills and refresh their minds. Each child enjoyed each session.
Ball Skills – The focus of PE this half term has been on ball skills. The children have developed throwing, catching, defending and attacking skills in a range of games. We have used footballs, tennis balls, basket balls and hockey equipment to refine our skills. During each PE lesson we have played an invasion game. The children have offered meaningful hints and tips on how their peers can improve their skills and become more successful.
PE with Josh – This term in PE, Josh has been working on spatial awareness activities. These have involved lots of fun games and ball skills.
The Haka – In PE this half term, our focus was the Haka. The children had lots of fun learning the moves as well as the chant. Children worked in a group to perfect their routines and later performed as a whole class.
Invasion Games & Fitness Activities – This term Class 5 PE sessions will be led by Josh Ridley from Durham County Sports. The children will be taking part in a number of activities designed to ensure team work is valued and understood. The children will be taking part in a number of indoor and outdoor invasion games, classroom fitness activities and a selection of objectives that will inform outcomes for elite athletes.
