To teach children about our Democratic process, all Learning Zones vote for two members of the class to represent their views on the School Council. Anyone who would like to stand for election gives a presentation and makes their election promises, detailing their manifesto. The rest of the class then vote and the two children with the most votes are elected to the School Council.
The School Council meet regularly with their adult to raise any issues or concerns on behalf of their Learning Zone and to explore how to improve the school by representing their voters.

Introducing the Stanhope Barrington School Councillors…
This year our school councillors are Joseph, Leo, Freddie, Euan, Wesley, Harry, Emily, Rory, Grace and Violet.
It is our school councillors’ job to gather any ideas for school improvements or issues that children are having and to share them at their regular meetings to raise ideas and find solutions. The team already identified some improvements that the children want to see taking place in school and are working hard to develop these throughout the autumn term.
Here’s what we’ve been doing…
Over the course of the autumn term the School Council met on various occasions to share ideas from their learning zones. The meetings have resulted in break time equipment being renewed, items around school being repaired or replaced and amendments to daily plans or school routines that children felt could be improved. The School Council have more plans to implement in the New Year. Stay tuned!
